I don't get the difference, it already says that the test mail is sent to the address you put on your profile (just in more words). What exactly is clearer and what error/misunderstanding happened to you?

If you leave out the email address you get this error: AxiosError: Request failed with status code 400. So ideally it should either:

  • be made impossible to do a test without that missing email address
  • A clear (validation) message should appear saying that you must fill in this email address

I do not have the tech expertise to change that part. I however could make clear in the docs the things that were not yet there:

  • the fact that it will give an error if you do not have entered an email
  • exactly under which menu item this email should be set.

Without that clarity it may take people quite a lot of time to find out the problem (as it did for me).

That would be a point for a ticket on the main bug tracker: https://github.com/nextcloud/server/issues

For "experts", I hope it is not that difficult to implement.
