No, don't worry at all about causing me rebases for minor stuff. The one thing you might try that'd conflict with me is cleaning up the error types -- if you try doing that and find you need to edit a ton of code, I'd say you should throw away your attempt because it'll likely conflict with me.

If you rewrite parts of the library to me non-recursive, that'd also conflict with me but probably in a fairly localized way so it's not a huge deal.
