Update section to indicate moment is deprecated/maintenance mode

moment has been in "maintenance mode" for a long time. In the docs and at the top of the README the project goes as far as to say "you should probably choose a different library".

It seems outdated for moment to still be listed as an "at-large" project without an asterix or alternative indicator to show that it's not really recommended to be used anymore.

That's because the native replacement, Temporal, hasn't widely shipped yet. I'd argue that it was many years premature for moment to declare "maintenance mode", and that it would have been better to wait until Temporal was stage 3 and shipping in browsers.

Either way, it'd be up to moment's maintainers to petition to change the project's status, imo.

Hi @ljharb thanks for responding.

Isn't the reality of the situation important though? That reality is the project maintainers have decided moment is effectively obsolete, and they recommend using alternatives in the ecosystem*.

I would just re-iterate that I think this reality could be represented better.

On your point of Temporal: is the availability of a native "replacement" a/the key indicator of whether something should be moved/removed? Node has had a native test runner for a few versions now. Would that be an indicator that jest and/or mocha should be moved/removed?

*Given that guidance, where I work we've moved all projects over to dayjs. dayjs has surpassed moment in weekly installs now, which is re-assuring.

BTW if you need a codemod that migrate moment to temporal, we (the node.js userland migrations) can do it. and It's will lived under the nodejs/userland-migrations and publish node.js Codemod org.
