recommended indexing strategy for JSON columns?

I am using SearchableJson to search a JSON column in my database

it works great, i've tested it with 10's of thousands of records on localhost

my concern is that as the db grows, this will get way slower

should i index this column using virtual columns for the keys i want to search?
