I wouldn’t be surprised if this issue were only to occur under certain circumstances, but the error message is unfortunately not helpful.

What's the client code that triggers this?

Also, did you remember the -preview=dip1000 flag that SafeRefCounted requires to be safe? Judging by the error message I'm guessing you did but just making sure.

About anything. IIRC this constructor is used internally in @trusted function(s) and should probably not be public.

Maybe the constructor should be explicitly @system so the error message would be better.
