"Official Code" field to something else

On the new user registration page, how do I change the name of the "Official Code" field to something else?

You should define a sub-language.
In the administration > Configuration settings part, search for "sub-language" and you should find an option to activate them.
Then go to "Languages" (from the platform block on the admin page) and choose the most common language for your users, then click on the last icon (double arrow) to create a new sub-language based on that one.
Search for "Official code" and replace all terms with new terms where "Official code" is transformed to whatever you need.
Finally, enable the sub-language (in the languages list) and disable the parent language. It can be tricky if a lot of students or courses are already set to use the parent language, but I'm sure you'll find your way around.

Your main/lang/ directory has to be writeable by the web server so it can save the terms for the sub-language in a new sub-directory of main/lang/
